This is a rough guide to the costs that you will need to cover.
College of Physicians and Surgeons Saskatchewan (CPSS) fee for Assessment of Credentials is $210.00 CAD. This fee is refunded (minus tax) if you become registered within 12 months of your first application.
Physician Credentials Registry of Canada (PCRC). This includes an account fee of $250.00 CAD (once only), $100.00 CAD for each of the first 4 medical documents, and $60 CAD each for subsequent medical document.
Couriering/Postal: You need to send physical documents for your CPSS, PCRC, and Visa applications. We recommend using the option of tracking your packages.
The CAPE: You are expected to pay $2,000.00 CAD of the $4,000 CAD fee. This is refunded to you on successful completion the CAPE.
CPSS Membership: For a temporary family physician license - $275.00 per month, to a maximum of $1,650 for one year.
Visa costs for you and family: Work Visa $170.00 plus you will need to get a physical completed. This involves a Medical, bloods (serology) and chest x-ray. Generally only physicians and people wanting to work with children require this.
The cost of medical indemnity insurance depends on a variety of factors, including what type of work you are doing. The best way to get a rough idea is to visit the Canadian Medical Protective Association's website.
Plane Tickets: We flew from Brisbane to Saskatoon one way for $1,200.00 each. Prices are better if you plan ahead and shop around.
If you are bring a pet, there are pet carriers who will fly your four-legged family member with stops for watering, etc. Make sure that all vaccinations are sorted before you leave.
As a final note, I would like to add that many towns who need physicians have plenty of incentives. These range from grants to fully paid removalists, shipping, and flights for you and your family. In most cases you should not be out of pocket.
